Chapter 206
***
It was right after Vilter and Rudy left the Guild building.
A pair of a man and a woman wearing black cloaks approached the Adventurer's Guild building. Both looked to be in their early to mid-20s, the woman had her reddish-brown hair tied tightly back, and the man was blond.
Unlike when Vilter and Rudy came, the fierce-looking people hanging around the building were extremely wary of the man and woman. Not because they recognized them, but because of the atmosphere they exuded.
Despite cautious gazes gathering on them, the man and woman acted exactly as if they didn't even recognize it. With a relaxed pace neither fast nor slow, they naturally reached the building entrance.
Then the gatekeeper stiffened his expression and said.
"A face I'm seeing for the first time?"
"That's right. Because we're coming here for the first time too."
The blond man answered without even looking at the gatekeeper, just glancing around.
"You have to prove your identity. It's not a place anyone can go in and out just because they wear a sword."
"Your words are right."
As he said that the man slightly opened his cloak to show inside. There was a cloak clasp inside the cloak, but strangely it was weird that he didn't use it as a clasp and it was inside.
The cloak clasp was made of gold, in the shape of an eagle sitting on an oak tree. Thinking for a moment about what that shape meant, remembering something the gatekeeper suddenly freaked out and gasped.
"Hiik!"
"We will pass."
The man passed the gatekeeper exactly as if it was nothing and entered the building, and the woman followed inside. As they disappeared from sight voices asking what was it, what's happening, who were they? were heard here and there.
The scenery inside the building was similar to when Vilter and Rudy came. A somehow inexplicably boring and droopy atmosphere amidst the quietness.
The man glanced around the inside from left to right, then his gaze stopped at the woman and man who gave the request to Vilter.
Walking smartly step step to them, he dragged a spare chair rattle and unceremoniously joined the table. His posture was slightly turned to the side crossing his legs, and his right arm rested casually on the table.
His companion with reddish-brown hair didn't sit and just stood quietly watching the man and woman.
When a person they saw for the first time unceremoniously joined them, the two people responsible for this Adventurer's Guild felt a little displeasure along with questions. The woman asked first.
"What is it? Going to start a fight?"
"That's not it. My name is Kaspar. This is Yulia. We came from the Inner Circle. Just, we have some business with you."
"That's not it. My name is Kaspar. This is Yulia. We came from the Inner Circle. Just, we have some business with you." (TL Note: Repeated in raws)
Kaspar and Yulia were people of the Viola Clan who were direct disciples of Bori in the past. Perhaps because time had passed, they had relaxedness in their words and actions.
"Inner Circle?"
"There is such a thing. People don't seem to know much."
Then the man named Kaspar took out a piece of paper from his bosom. Looking at the contents written on the paper, he recited roughly.
"The woman acts under the name Kayla, real name is Suzy. The man is Tomb. Whose real name he himself doesn't know either. Is that right?"
As information that one couldn't know unless being the closest person came out of the mouth of a stranger they saw for the first time, Kayla and Tomb were startled and began to be extremely wary.
"......Who are you guys."
However Kaspar ignored those words and said what he had to say.
"You once caught wine smugglers in Reinfurt not long ago right? You participated in a joint operation, but weirdly they say a few items was missing. Do you not know anything about this?"
Kaspar's tone was as if having a comfortable daily conversation, but Kayla and Tomb listening couldn't be comfortable. At that moment their bodies felt exactly like turning rigid. They came from the Federation.
"We, we, that we, we don't know anything about it."
"Right. You would be. But you don't need to be too nervous. We didn't come from the Federation. As I told you we came from the Inner Circle. Not that we're going to tell you in detail what the Inner Circle is. What we're interested in is something else. Didn't a boy looking around 10 or 12 years old come looking here? Blond hair and blue eyes. Wearing a dark red cloak. Do you know him?"
It wasn't a long time ago either and there was no way they wouldn't know the two boys who came and left just ten-odd minutes ago. Kayla and Tomb remembered right away but hesitant not knowing how to understand and accept the current situation.
Because if they misspoke they could die on the spot. The Master's Federation was that scary. Kaspar said he himself wasn't the Federation, but it seemed hard to readily believe.
"My goodness, rolling your brains again when we already knew everything and came."
"I totally tell you doing it nicely only wastes time."
Yulia said.
"If we act carelessly we're smearing mud on the Master's face. It's not that kind of world nowadays. Adapt, somewhat."
The Master Kaspar spoke of was Bolka of the Viola Clan. Having no way to know that Kayla and Tomb were making an expression full of question marks on their faces while being surprised.
The Inner Circle was none other than the organization directly under the Council of Six. The Master's Federation was like a subordinate organization of the Council of Six, therefore the Inner Circle had a higher status than the Master's Federation.
To join the Master's Federation one had to be at least a Highly Proficient rank, and surpassing general adventurers whose ranks were divided one's team-level operation execution ability like subjugating a bandit mountain stronghold or goblin lair had to be good.
Only people verified of that could belong to the Master's Federation, but they secretly cared about origins too.
Unless one was a graduate of Beringen Academy or from a famous organization like the Viola Clan or Michela Sword Monastery it was hard to join even having skills.
But from among them again, selected personnel could become the Inner Circle.
From here on they evaluated not team-level, but individual-level operation execution ability. So people close to at least Master, Sword Master assisted the Council of Six in that format.
However because such information was so unrevealed to the outside or general adventurers, Kayla and Tomb were thoroughly in the dark.
Only, the cloak clasp proving identity looked similar whether it was the Master's Federation or the Inner Circle. So the gatekeeper had freaked out thinking Kaspar and Yulia were people coming from the Federation.
"We came looking for you not because of another meaning. We came to give a warning. There's another team besides us, and they don't do it with words you see? So we're telling you in advance. The boy with blond hair and blue eyes, it's better not to harm him. Don't harbor the intention to do so either. Just showing signs the people might come finding you. And don't try to find out. Because the act of finding out itself can be a hostile act. Do you understand what I mean?"
At Kaspar's question Kayla and Tomb blanked out and barely nodded their heads. Taking that as understanding it, Kaspar finished up.
"As I told you we are not, well, people who catch faults or dispose of them or such. Thinking you have fully understood, we will stop making you uncomfortable and go."
Kaspar unilaterally notified and stood up from the seat. And left the Guild building together with his companion Yulia.
Only after some time passed, Kayla and Tomb exhaled the blocked breath. Felt exactly like having a nightmare right from early morning, and felt like surviving after almost dying. They knew everything about siphoning wine. But why don't they punish us?
Though they caught their breath, they soon suffered from anxiety.
Their hands were trembling rattle rattle. Their gazes were unstable and expressions were rigid.
Unlike when they first came, Vilter and Rudy stood blankly at Kayla and Tomb's extremely nervous appearances. Looking around there was no one in the room.
At this point even a person with no tact whatever could tell something was strange.
Nine silver coins were placed finely on the table. Vilter thought was it okay to receive the success reward when he hadn't even done anything.
"Did someone come and go by any chance?"
Vilter asked. Then Kayla and Tomb simultaneously only shook their heads, and there was no answer.
"As I told you, Baby Bear Legli was processed by the Council of Six. We did nothing. But is it okay to receive the success reward?"
Kayla and Tomb only nodded their heads without answering this time too. Did they suddenly become mutes?
However suddenly, Rudy who was quietly watching the situation took the silver coins swoosh precisely like stealing them. And grabbed Vilter exactly like running away and left the Guild building.
Rudy left the building and handed over the silver coins to Vilter.
"Here."
"......Didn't we not do anything?"
"Money is money anyway. Guess fairies are helping."
"Fairies......"
Vilter blankly looked down at the silver coins placed on his palm. Honestly, he somehow vaguely knew what the situation was like. I mean that the Council of Six was watching him.
But that wasn't very pleasing. Whether a useless competitive spirit, or rebelliousness, such a thing arose in his heart.
However, since his suspicion hadn't hardened into certainty he thought he should try an experiment once.
"Let's buy equipment first."
"Uh?"
"It's unreasonable to wander around just wearing the uniform right. And it's not enough for tuition. Let's buy equipment first for a bigger job. You know how to use a sword right?"
"I know it of course......"
Rudy somehow felt anxiety precisely as if things were getting bigger and bigger. Whether so or not Vilter went straight to the blacksmith.
There they bought a cheap sword Rudy would use, and bought gloves, belts, cloaks, and shoes at a nearby shop dealing in leather and fabric.
After buying things the two boys would use two silver coins remained. Seeing him splashing money not just refreshingly but too prodigally, Rudy felt exactly like spinning into dizziness.
Who Vilter took after, once he made up his mind he acted without looking back. The place they headed to last was the Adventurer's Guild again.
There they ignored Kayla and Tomb who weren't saying anything exactly as if their mouths were sewn shut, and quietly examined the wall plastered thickly with wanted posters.
And suddenly ripped off whoosh the wanted poster of the wanted criminal with the highest price hung on it among them. He didn't even look at the contents.
Vilter checked the wanted poster after leaving the Guild building. Rudy checked it together from his side.
First thing standing out was that the drawing was so unclear it was impossible to recognize the appearance. Wearing a hood, and his appearance had no particular features.
[Edenskat - Also called 'Glass Bell' Skat.
Criminal record - Illegal acquisition of loot, trading stolen goods, multiple murders (Official record: 20 cases), noble murders (2 cases).
Main area of operation - Kelbron and the Kelbron area.
For God and the Empire, 20 gold coins for capturing the above criminal alive, 5 gold coins for bringing the head.
Warning: Arbitrarily damaging this document will result in punishment from the Master's Federation.]
"Is Kelbron far from here?"
Vilter asked Rudy.
"About half a day north......"
"Let's go then. Before it's late."
"Wait a minute."
"Why?"
"Billy do you really have no hesitation?"
"What's there if I hesitate?"
"There's nothing really...... but still since we're human......"
"Is that so? Then shall we hesitate for about 10 minutes?"
"......No, let's just go."
"Okay."
"But what's the reason you're going this far?"
"Need to see the fairies with my own eyes. With this level of wanted criminal, wouldn't something overlap in the middle? And if things go well we can earn the tuition at once so isn't it good?"
"I envy you for doing everything so easily. Not knowing if you don't have thoughts, or if you think and reach conclusions too fast......"
"Well, what do you think it is?"
Vilter asked while smiling. Heading to Kelbron their pace was fast.
"I don't know. But what if after you confirm the fairies with your own eyes?"
"Should tell them to stop following me around."
"Will the fairies be able to understand human language?"
"Didn't think of that. But whether they understand the language or not in the end there's no way but confirming it directly."
"Let's say your thoughts are fast."
"Hehehe......"
Actually Rudy didn't think he or Vilter could catch a heinous criminal of this level. If they were to be caught so easily someone would have already taken the bounty long ago.
Of course it might be different if the fairies helped them this time too. Did they say Council of Six? Sounds like the name of some thief guild.
Vilter and Rudy passed the Red Light District near the North Gate again to go north.
Passing in front of Iolin's Purity Legli's corpse had been cleared away, and no one commemorated him, and precisely as if joyful the sound of laughing was heard from inside.
Although Rudy didn't really did anything, the pleasant sound of laughing was good to hear. It was exactly like his heart became much lighter. He also hoped the heart of the woman named Sonia would become much better too.
Going out the North Gate the wind blew across the fields. It swept away the damp smell of the city all at once.
It seemed a fairy dwelled in the wind's texture that could neither be seen nor touched. Though it's a slightly terrifying fairy that splatters a person into pieces.
Vilter and Rudy walked the fields fluttering their cloaks. For now, there were no watching gazes.
